Whether you need to write your salvation story for a Christian job or school application, church, or just share with others, writing your testimony of salvation feels daunting at first. But remember this crucial fact: God’s got your back!
As you prepare to write your testimony, you will find these three tips helpful. I like to call them the 3 B’s.
The 3 B’s:
1. Believe.
- Believe in Christ.
- Believe that you believe in Christ.
- Believe that Christ will handle this.
2. Base it on Scripture.
- Find scripture that explains salvation.
- Explain how and why you’re saved using scripture.
- Verify biblical salvation with your pastor or another Christian.
3. Beware of Digressions.
- Don’t tell your life story. Tell the truth, but not the whole truth. The whole truth is too long.
- Don’t be a psychologist. You don’t want to veer off into psychoanalyzing yourself, your childhood, or your mental illnesses.
- Don’t be a biblical scholar. Go easy on the biblical commentary. You don’t have to prove your deep understanding of scripture.
Before you begin writing your testimony, spend some time praying, meditating, and reflecting on these three tips. Then as you pick up the pen and get going, it will be helpful to refer back to these tips. Most importantly, though, remember that all you have to do is turn it over to God. And thank you for doing it!
